A short and sweet understanding about teachers and why we are so special.
Today I said goodbye to my first school that I have been teaching at for the last six years. It was a very emotional day, but also an emotional day leading up to it, as it feels like you are leaving home for the first time.
Six years ago I did not know I would end up like this today. Six years ago I did not know I would make a difference to student lives.
We as teachers have the most powerful job in the world. Students, parents and other teachers look up to us to change lives. Every day we would go into work not knowing what to expect on the day and that's the beauty of teaching.
We as teachers have the responsibility to cater for all needs and abilities, regardless how hard it may seem at the time. There may be a student in your class who is not interested in what you are saying. How do you approach this student? We make connections with them and build that professional relationship with them to cater for their needs. A student in your class may be excelling in their learning and therefore at times get bored. How do you approach this student? Challenge them, allow them to take a risk in their learning and learn other ways that suit them.
There may be a parent who requires high needs. How do you approach that parent? Provide them communication and reinsure them that you are providing their child the best learning they can get. Show them examples of their achievements. Parents too require that guidance and requires your support. Remember we are there as well to make a difference for the parents. At the end of the day our hard work pays off by a simple 'thank you' from the students and parents.
This is why teachers are so special, no matter who you teach, communicate or assess everyone looks up to you to make a difference in their lives.
I am so lucky I have chosen this profession, today is a day I'll always remember, so many thank you were given to me, as I have made a difference in someone else's life.
